Level of difficulty

The average level of difficulty of Porta Arctica’s backpacking and hiking tours is affected by e.g. the length of the route, the duration of the tour in days, amount ascents and descents, type of terrain and amount/weight of the gear.

Fitness here primarily refers to endurance fitness, especially the ability to walk the daily distances carrying heavy backpack.

1 = Very easy. Requires everyman’s level of physical fitness.

2 = Easy. Requires moderate physical fitness.

3 = Demanding. Requires good physical fitness and endurance.

4 = Heavy. Requires very good physical fitness and endurance.

5 = Extreme. Requires the fitness level of an athlete.

Note: Short tours can also be demanding due to, for example, pathless terrain and lots of ascents/descents.
